Ocean Finance to hike online spend

Ocean Finance, the loans company best known for its daytime television advertising, is to spend up to £9m on digital marketing over the next 18 months, taking its internet budget above its TV spend for the first time.

The latest digital campaign from the company, which is the UKs largest loans broker, starts this week with a £600,000 campaign on major portals.

The campaign, named Debt Invaders and based on the Space Invaders game, has been developed by full-service agency TBG London, and will run across MSN, Wanadoo and NTL World as well as through targeted e-mail lists.

Ocean Finance has tripled the proportion of its marketing budget spent on the interent over the past two years, from 10% to 30%.

It is now expected to lift its online spending even further, to about 40%, as it moves more of the budget usually spent on press ads to online.

At that point the internet would overtake TV advertising, which accounts for 30% of Ocean's budget.
